Kimberly Robertson was a college student in criminal justice living in Oakland, California. She was 23 years old with a 2 year old daughter living with her sister. At 6:30 am on Apr 4, 2014, a bicyclist finds her body in FM Smith Park. Her sweater and a receipt are found near her body. Also her purse and ID.
Police question Kimberly’s boyfriend, Danny Royer. He took Kim to the Lakeside Lounge that evening at 11:30 pm and stayed until 1:15 am. They were drinking, so he didn’t want to drive. Kim argued with him that she wanted to drive, but she’d been drinking too. They got in a taxi, fought, and she got out to take the bus. He took off in the taxi, came back, and sat in his car waiting for her to show up at the bus station.
Kim’s autopsy shows she died of blunt force trauma. She was raped and her skull was cracked. Time of death was between 2 and 6 am.
Police watch CCTV at the Lakeside Lounge. It shows Kim, Danny, and Danny’s friend Marco at the lounge. Danny was flirting with other women and Kim was seriously pissed.
Across the street from the lounge is a Walgreens with a camera pointed at their parking lot. Police watch the Walgreens CCTv. At 1:50 am the taxi arrives. They both get in the cab. Thirty seconds later, Kim gets out. The taxi takes off and returns a minute later. It takes off again, then returns again and this time Danny gets out.
Police check the CCTV footage of the bank across from the bus station. It shows Danny pulling up and falling asleep in his car waiting for Kim. But in that CCTV footage police find something disturbing. A Toyota 4Runner drove by the bus stop where Kim was waiting, turned around and circled it a second time, this time pulling up and offering Kim a ride. She gets in. He does a U-turn and drives right past Danny’s car. Kim looks out the window and sees Danny in his car asleep, all caught on CCTV. That’s the last time she’ll be seen alive. FM Smith Park is only one fourth of a mile away. Her killer probably raped and murdered her within minutes.
The receipt found near Kim’s body was for March 23 6:08 pm, in Elk Grove, California, 100 miles away, for garden supplies. Police view their CCTV footage and see at 5:37 pm a red Toyota 4Runner and 2 men park. One has a dreadlock bun. He paid for the purchase with a credit card of a 50 year old woman which was stolen. His second purchase was at Carls Jr on that same stolen credit card. So police view the Carls Jr CCTV footage and see the same red Toyota 4Runner and the same two men. The license plate is 4LKD812. It belongs to a 40 year old married father of three, Prince Tsetse. He was supposedly in custody at the time of the murder.
Police do a door knock in the neighborhood belonging to Tsetse with flyers of Kim. He says, on bodycam video, that he’s never seen her, which is a lie. So they bring him in for questioning and he’s arrested. His DNA is found on her body from the rape. He had a fight with his wife that evening and went trolling for a victim, so he probably has done this before.
Prince Tsetse is sentenced to life in prison without parole.
